Patron of the Sheds at expo

08 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
AN EXTRA special guest will be the centre of attention at today’s Men’s Shed expo at the Woolpack Convention centre at the Dubbo Showgrounds.

First bloke, Tim Mathieson, who is the patron of the Australian Men’s Shed movement is on the record in regard to the success of the movement in promoting men’s health issues.

Today more than 200 men representing close to 30 individual sheds will have the opportunity to enjoy the one-day expo with a number of high profile guest speakers.

Mr Mathieson, who is the partner of the Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard will join speakers like John Anderson, former deputy prime minister, former Member for Gwydir and shearer John Harper who will tackle the topic of depression.

There will also be a range of workshops, panel discussions, a visit to the Dubbo shed and auctions.

Dubbo Community Men’s Shed secretary John Gibson hoped those who attended the expo could expect to go away with a lot more than they came with, if not in goodies but valuable information and friendships.

“We listened to what members wanted and the 2012 Expo should meet all requests and more, in relation to what you need to grow and enjoy your shed.

There will be interactive and informative workshops on subject such as: gardening, funding/finance, occupational health and safety, medical, mentoring, handyman, shed experiences and starting and growing a shed.

There will also be demonstrations on: lapidary, metalworking, wood turning, first aid and displays by sheds.

The approximate cost to attend is $20 per head, this will cover all administrative costs, insurances, venue, and lunch.

The mens shed would be a welcome relief from the hurley burley of the political scene for Tim, me thinks.
