A 23-year-old man has been refused bail after allegedly leading police on a high-speed car chase for 135 kilometres.
Andrew James Dixon, of Attunga Place, appeared before Orange Bail Court on Saturday morning following his arrest on Friday night.
Solicitor Patrick Rudd said his client disputed the police facts, including that he was even driving the car during the chase.
Police were patrolling Burrendong Way at Euchareena at about 6.30pm when they saw a 1975-model Toyota Lexcen sedan allegedly travelling at speeds of up to 130 kilometres per hour.
Police activated warning lights and sirens and, when Dixon allegedly did not stop, began pursuing him.
The chase through Euchareena and Mumbil was terminated at Wellington.
Police allege that Dixon was again speeding on the Mitchell Highway towards Molong and that another chase began, reaching speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour.
Dixon allegedly swerved to avoid road spikes placed at Larras Lee before Molong.
He allegedly drove through Molong before colliding with an embankment at the intersection of the Mitchell Highway and Amaroo Road.
Police say seven people got out of the car, including two young children who had been allegedly sitting on the floor.
Dixon was charged with driving while disqualified from holding a licence, not stopping and driving recklessly during a police pursuit, not stopping a vehicle when directed, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, driving with an unrestrained passenger, negligent driving and dangerous driving.
He will appear before Orange Local Court tomorrow.
