Library short-changed in bid for grants

12 Mar, 2010 03:00 AM
Macquarie Regional Library has missed out on the latest round of development grant funding from the NSW Government.

An application for $200,000 was lodged through Narromine Shire Council to enhance facilities at Trangie.

Dubbo-based Macquarie Regional Library director John Bayliss said Trangie branch library needed upgrading to provide additional services and community space.

“I am disappointed the funding application was not successful,’’ he said.

“Another application will be made in the next round of funding in July.’’

Mr Bayliss said Macquarie Regional Library was successful in obtaining $100,000 for audio books in 2008/09.

“During the last five years we have also received government funding for the development of our large print collection and the upgrading of the Dubbo, Narromine, Wellington, and Coolah branch library buildings,’’ he said.

Library development grants totalling $3.3 million are currently being distributed to 44 locations around NSW.

Local recipients include Bourke, Parkes, Warren, Coonamble, Nyngan and Gilgandra libraries.
