A woman who defrauded Centrelink to the tune of $16,000 was told in Dubbo Local Court yesterday that she would go to jail if she didn’t contact probation and parole.
Rebecca Clark, 25, pleaded guilty to receiving financial advantage from a Commonwealth entity and was due to be sentenced yesterday.
However, the court heard probation and parole had been unable to contact her because they had the wrong address, and she had not contacted them, meaning there was no pre-sentence report prepared.
Had a report been prepared, the magistrate would know what sentencing options were suitable for Clark, other than full-time custody.
The court heard Clark had been “very busy” in the past six weeks, trying to find a house.
“Do you want to go to jail?” Magistrate Madgwick asked.
“Probation and parole can’t contact you if they don’t know where you are.
“Go see them today.”
Magistrate Madgwick adjourned the matter to May 3 for sentence.
