The funeral of 18-year-old student Sarah Waugh will be held in Newcastle today, where friends and family will join together wearing clothes that represent the life Sarah led.
Sarah fell to her death last Monday when she was thrown from her horse as she returned to the stables with her class as her lesson at the Dubbo Campus Rural Skills and Environment Centre came to an end.
Family and friends will join together for the funeral today at 2pm at the Christ Church Cathedral in Newcastle, following with a gathering at the Newcastle Grammar School where Sarah graduated last year.
Guests have been asked to dress in clothing that reflects the varied and colourful life in which Sarah led.
The 18-year-old student, who had aspirations to be a vet, was taking part in the Agriculture Certificate two course at TAFE as part of her gap year.
Police said when she fell she suffered severe internal and external head injuries, and died at the scene after going into cardiac arrest.
WorkCover last week undertook preliminary enquires into the incident and said it was not continuing.
Two Dubbo horse trainers last week expressed concern over the way TAFE now structures the horse-handling component of Sarah’s course.
In December last year, it stopped taking students to the horses and began to bring horses to the students on campus.
