Dubbo police first to use Skye's Law

25 Mar, 2010 01:53 PM
A 15-year-old girl has been arrested in Dubbo overnight following a police pursuit.

Dubbo police are now the first in the state to charge someone under Skye’s Law.

They charged the young person with driving in a dangerous manner and engaging in a police pursuit following a half-hour chase.

The pursuit allegedly began around 10.45pm when police saw a white Suzuki Swift driving on Victoria Street at what appeared to be an excessive speed, according to Police Minister Michael Daley.

“Police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver then allegedly accelerated in an attempt to escape police,” he said.

The officers pursued the vehicle along the Mitchell Highway to Wongarbon, where it turned around and went back towards Dubbo.

“Police deployed road spikes on two occasions without success. On the third occasion at the spikes resulted in the tyre coming completely away from the rim, and the vehicle eventually coming to a stop five kilometres later,” Mr Daley said.
