Secretary manager of Dubbo Turf Club Mark Day has expressed that while it should be a day of fun, no nonsense will be tolerated.

His advice comes on the back of a similar warning from the NSW police minister.

Preparing for his second Derby Day as secretary manager Mr Day wants people to leave their rowdy behaviour at home.

“We don’t want some people ruining it for others,” he said.

“Let’s face it, if you want to play you’ve got to play by police rules.

“Our eviction policy puts in plain english what’s expected of people and what we won’t put up with.”

Turf Club management has been working with police in the lead-up to the event to ensure extra security measures will be in place on the day.

“We have requested to have eight extra police which we will pay for, along with $7000 worth of extra security guards,” Mr Day said. “All alcoholic drinks to be served by the Turf Club will be mid strength ... and we are spending $6800 on transport to take away the hassle of anyone having to drive on the day.”

Judging by last year’s crowd Mr Day is confident it will be another “excellent” day.

“People always say young people this, young people that, but all they want to do is party,” he said.

“Last year we only had one under-age drinker and one guy who tried to smuggle in a schooner glass and was evicted straight away. My message to racegoers is frock up, let your hair down and come down here to have a good time - but don’t forget to pace yourself.”

NSW police minister Michael Daley encourages Dubbo’s racegoers to drink responsibly and plan how they will get home safely.

He said the annual Derby Day races at the Dubbo Turf Club was a great community event that shouldn’t be marred by antisocial behaviour.

“In recent years, a number of incidents have marred what should be a great community event including sexual assaults, assault of police, assaults and malicious damage,” he said.
