THE CHILDREN of Rainbow Cottage on Mitchell Street had wide grins yesterday as they used their newly repaired play equipment.
The Dubbo Community Men’s Shed was behind the mending of the childcare centre toys, including the outside boat and kitchen play equipment.
The men were rewarded for their workshop efforts with a carrot cake from grateful staff at Rainbow Cottage.
“We revived it I suppose you could say,” Dubbo Community Men’s Shed member Bert Barwick said of the boat.
“Really we put new boards in the seats and on the floor,” he said.
About a weeks worth of workshop work went into the repairs by the men who used recycled materials to do the job.
The men will be back to Rainbow Cottage to put finishing touches on the boat as they repaint the inside of the structure.
“We have quite a bit of donated paint at the Men’s Shed,” Mr Barwick said.
Rainbow Cottage child development officer Ann Keen was very grateful for the efforts of the Dubbo Community Men’s Shed in fixing the boat and kitchen toys.
“They are already talking about putting a flag pole in it” she said.
“It is good they get involved and the children become aware of people in the community.”
