Australia Financial Review’s bank of the year in 2011 will close its Dubbo business centre next month.
Six employees of Bankwest’s Dubbo Rural and Business Banking Centre will be affected by the decision.
The Daily Liberal understands they were advised of the decision six weeks before the centre is set to close on March 14.
The financial services provider is helping to find “redeployment opportunities” for the Dubbo employees, a Bankwest spokeswoman said.
Bankwest justified the position as one that would allow them to serve a growing business customer base.
“Bankwest constantly reviews its business centres and store network to ensure we are positioned in the best possible locations to benefit the maximum number of our customers,” the spokeswoman said.
“In the past year our business customer numbers have increased by (more than) 5 per cent and we remain committed to continuing the growth of our business on the east coast.
“The change we have made will enable us to better service our rural and regional customers and we have identified areas of growth and will be recruiting additional relationship managers to assist our expanding customer base.
“We also continue to have one of the best staff to customer ratios in the business and we remain focused on providing our customers with innovative and uncomplicated products and services so that they receive the support they need to succeed.
“It is also important to note that only a small number of roles will be directly impacted by this transition and where possible Bankwest will support these colleagues to find new opportunities.”
Bankwest’s Dubbo business centre is located on Cobra Street.
Bankwest’s website advises it has business banking managers only at Dubbo and no telling facilities.
