Antarctic bite sweeps across sunny central west

04 Jul, 2009 05:00 AM
Murmurs of “why is it so bloody cold” swirled around as a sunny cold snap hit Dubbo yesterday.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology it is just another cold winter front.

A deep complex low-pressure system had moved from southwest Tasmania to the east - bringing with it an antarctic bite.

Chilly conditions are expected to hang around till early next week as wind eases off later in the weekend.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said current conditions are not unusual and are consistent with past winters in Dubbo.

A minimum of 0.5 degrees was recorded on Thursday and a minimum of 4.8 degrees was recorded Friday. Both of these figures are reasonable and can be considered normal when compared to the long-term average.

The average July minimum temperature is 3 degrees Celsius and this time last year the minimum temperature was -0.5 degrees.

Expect fairly cold, frosty mornings gradually clearing with sunshine bursting through that will make you think it is warmer than what it really is.
