A man charged with the murder of a baby in Narromine made an appearance in Dubbo Local Court yesterday.
The matter was adjourned for a week and bail was refused.
The 19-year-old man cannot be named for legal reasons.
He was arrested on April 29 this year by detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Joint Investigation Response Squad for the alleged fatal assault of a six-month-old baby girl.
Her death and injuries were under investigation by police for two weeks after they received reports on April 14 that she had sustained severe head injuries while at a home in Narromine, according to a release from police earlier this year.
She was airlifted from Dubbo to Sydney Children’s Hospital, where she died four days later.
A department of health spokesperson said the baby was limp and unresponsive when she was taken to Narromine Hospital on April 14.
Strike Force Aline, comprising detectives from the Joint Investigation Response Squad, with assistance from the Homicide Squad and Orana Local Area Command, was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested the 19-year-old man at the Dubbo Police Station on April 29 and he appeared at court later that day.
Since that date, he has appeared five more times before a Dubbo magistrate.
The matter was adjourned for mention on November 11.
