A DUBBO woman has been charged with shoplifting after she was stopped by police for littering and riding a push bike without a helmet.
Denise Carla Brown, 34, came to police attention in Talbragar Street at 9pm on December 2.
Officers patrolling in the area ordered Brown to stop and told her to pick up material allegedly thrown on the footpath.
The disability support pensioner walked 20 metres and retrieved the litter.
Police found four trays of meat when Brown submitted to a bag search.
Brown allegedly told police she had been carrying the meat for a couple of hours but when officers touched the trays they were cold.
Investigations revealed the meat had allegedly been stolen from Woolworths Riverdale 15 minutes earlier.
Brown was brought before Magistrate Andrew Eckhold in Dubbo Local Court this week.
The court heard the meat was valued at $38.88.
Magistrate Eckhold said he wanted Brown to engage with the Magistrate’s Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) drug and alcohol program.
“I believe you may have problems with the use of oxycontin,’’ he said.
Brown was ordered to reappear in court on Tuesday.
She was told to comply with the directions of the probation and parole service.
