Dubbo Chamber of Commerce has backed the attempts of its statewide counterpart to secure more GST revenue for NSW.
The chamber welcomed any debate that ensured a balanced system was in place, Dubbo chamber board director Donna Ambler said.
It comes after the NSW Business Chamber attempted to install a controversial billboard at a Queensland airport that claimed Queensland was subsided by its nearest southern neighbours.
The struggle has been recognised as important in Dubbo by the chamber board.
“We support the sentiments expressed by the NSW Business Chamber,” she said.
“Any discussion about tax arrangements that affect
business in NSW is important and we welcome any debate that ensures a balanced system is in place.”
Ms Ambler said while her board would continue to lobby on local issues, the State body’s lobbying on their behalf on national issues was important.
“We remain committed to ensuring we have open discussions with our local MPs on taxation and other issues at state and federal levels,” she said.
“The lobby committee during recent months has been working with the council to understand the new local environment plan.”
Ms Ambler would “follow with interest” the 2010 State revenue sharing review.
The Commonwealth Grants Commission is due to hand down its recommendation to Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan this month on a new GST formula that the NSW chamber expected to heavily punish NSW.
