 You Know What I Reckon
What makes councillors change when in chambers?

What makes councillors change when in chambers?

G’day, you know what I reckon?

Email-gate, Grow Dubbo-gate, 6 to 5-gate, Gordon Estate-gate, Caravan park-gate, 5 star hotel-gate, pedestrian crossing-gate, these are just a small few of the many gates, sorry, scandals that have dogged the Dubbo City Council since I started to write my column.

I do have one question though.

Why do we always call a scandal a something-gate? Because the building was The Watergate Apartments - Not Watergate-gate.

Guess I’ll never know, but if you do know send me a blog or email please.

Anyway, I will declare a pecuniary interest in my column today.

I have socialised with some councillors, brought products from others, lived near family of others, and have met almost all of them, not all, but most, and have definitely bagged the crap out of each and everyone, whether deservedly or not.

So my interest is I know them, but more than that I want to know what makes them do what they do.

I’ve been doing a bit of research this week.

It’s something that some of our bloggers want me to do more of.

If I didn’t have a family, a job, sit on two boards, and coach and ref footy I might have more time to do so.

However I tried to find out the background about the latest stoush between the Mayor and the Opposition Leader in Council.

Sorry, but that’s the way they act.

It goes back to January 22 of this year.

That’s this stoush, but are they all one big long s*** fight?

It still seems to stem from the mayoral elections in September last year.

Talk about a long time to carry a grudge, but does this mean it will be all over this September, or will it go on until the next election because of 6 to 5-gate?

So why do they continue to do it? Why put up with the crap from each other and us?

The bloggers over the past couple of weeks have been harsh and very scathing in their comments over the very public fracas between Councillors’ Matthews, Shields and Reynolds, with a touch of Bartley thrown in on the side. The other seven have kept their political heads below the parapet and not raised them up to be blown off.

Keith who, Mathew what, Alan where?

I do think that things might be different if Councillor Shields had 6-5 his way, Grow Dubbo wouldn’t be an issue, neither would be confidential emails, but he didn’t.

As I have said before, EEL’s you all need to think about why you are here and whether Councillor Reynolds is right in her assessment of bringing in the Local Government Minister.

It really is a simple thing; you either all work together for the good of the people that elected you, or you all bugger off now.

What do you think, ‘cause that’s what I reckon.

Saulie

Isn't this Kevin Saul guy the same guy that is a board member of Grow Dubbo and supports Rorque Poisson? Surely Mr Saul should have declared his interest! Or could it be that the opinion poll conducted by Labor that showed Mr Saul had no chance of wining an election so he just sits on the sidelines with motherhood statements without really putting his money where his mouth is. BTW, Hey Kevin, when next you bagg Greg Matthews, will you also mention that you were the one who stared in Dawn Fardells election ads even though... you know

What the hell has the comment from Really got to do with Saul's piece? He mentions GD once at the top, as he reels off the lists of issues council's had to deal with. His column is about how people channge once they receive a certain amount of responsibilty, not about GD. If you'd actually read the column before rushing to hammer Saul just because he GETS a column each week, you might have noticed that. Your opinion is irrelevant and pointless.

Totally agree with you Bec. The comment by 'Really' is just another illustration that the stars could fall out of the sky and still Grow Dubbo would get the blame. It never ceases to amaze me how this person(s) tie Grow Dubbo into everything that is wrong with the world. Their irrelevance is at times somewhat amusing and always annoying. There are so many more serious issues afflicting Council at the moment and these people just dont see it, or dont want to see it. Its all Grow Dubbo's fault, yeah right.

Actually Bec You should learn to read - Grow Dubbo is mentioned more then just at the top. Im just saying people should be aware that Mr Saul is one of the supporters of Rorque Poisson.

Kevin is you do not have the time to to the search before putting in your weekly article then dont do it, all you do is stir !!!!. Many people have family , trainperson , run business and help out within in the community. Your articles sometimes are so insulting, you need to have a good look at yourself. Is it are you on that Grow dubbo board if so now I understand some of the comments you make.

Now I understand why you are always attacking certain councillors, because you were in the current state members campiagn. You seem to have a lot of conflict of interest , why do they allow you write for this paper.

So tell us what happened on the 22 nd January?? I am also amazed that Kevin is on the grow dubbo board. I always thought that Kevin fought for what is right. Can you tell me what grow dubbo has achieved in the past 18 months. Because I see nothing just council flushing $300,000 down the toliet.

everyone knows that you have a desire to be on council or our next state member that is why you keep attacking anyone on council that you feel may be competition to you. I believe the liberal should not allow your article as you have two many conflicts. and you also do not have the time to search anything before you put it to print. Let leo have 2 columns a week and take kevin's away from him

Geez Kev, you certainly ruffled a few feathers, albeit seemingly on just one chicken with a few pseudonyms who is hell bent on bringing down Grow Dubbo. The consistent irrelevant tirades are amusing if nothing else.

To dear, darling Really:

So it's mentioned a whole two times? Oooh, stop, you're hurting me.

The point regardless remains the same - you claim Saul's column is about GD. It's not. If you HAD read it, you'd see that.

It's clearly about people and their changing attitudes once they enter the area of the council chambers.

He's mentioned his position on GD in the past. So what?

Peope like you that are so hell-bent on linking every little thing with GD make me laugh. It's incredibly simplistic, and all you're doing is listening to the few people who have decided to make this an issue.

Why don't you learn to think for yourself?
