Better effort but series still ‘sucks’
Posted: 18 Nov 11 | After ramping up the action in Eclipse the first part of the fourth Twilight instalment drops back into second gear and while it is pretty bland stuff with some seriously warped moral issues it makes a nice change to actually see some attempted character development. | CommentsComments (0)
Involving tale on the money
Posted: 11 Nov 11 | When is a sport movie not really a movie about sport? When it is about the 2002 Oakland Athletics baseball club and their record-breaking season. | CommentsComments (0)
Mediocrity blunts classic tale

Rocky with robots sure to please
Posted: 07 Oct 11 | Welcome to Rocky with robots. Based on Richard Matheson’s 1956 short story Steel, Real Steel is everything a crowd-pleaser should be. | CommentsComments (0)
Taking risks pays off in big way
Posted: 30 Sep 11 | In the spirit of (500) Days of Summer comes a romantic comedy that bravely thinks outside the square, takes chances and makes no apologies, making it a worthwhile experience to savour. | CommentsComments (0)
Posted: 16 Sep 11 | As far as unnecessary remakes this would have to be a contender for the most unnecessary. | CommentsComments (0)
Pulled punches let down involving drama
Posted: 02 Sep 11 | Here is another solid, entertaining movie that should aspire to stir up emotions about an inflammatory subject but instead of going for the throat it pulls back and hedges its bets and is happy just reassuring us that racism is bad. | CommentsComments (0)
Comedy’s success all in stellar casting
Posted: 26 Aug 11 | In the past I have bemoaned movies that have great potential but never realise it, so it makes a nice change to see a movie that overachieves, big time. | CommentsComments (0)
Posted: 19 Aug 11 | In the past I have bemoaned Hollywood’s lack of originality in many areas but the same can’t be said here and kudos where kudos are due for daring to be a little different. | CommentsComments (0)
Lantern’s light dimmed by clunky, cliched script
Posted: 12 Aug 11 | Welcome to a game of comic catch-up as DC attempts to beef up its movie stakes and challenge Marvel’s supremacy. | CommentsComments (0)
Posted: 05 Aug 11 | There is little doubt that 1968’s Planet of the Apes is a defining moment in sci-fi cinema so why not cash in for a whole new generation 43 years later. | CommentsComments (0)
Posted: 29 Jul 11 | This film has a lot against it but, under the weight of being an origin movie and the fourth or fifth part of an extended trailer/advertisement for the upcoming Avengers movie, it manages to keep its head above water and entertain. | CommentsComments (0)
Posted: 22 Jul 11 | My memo to the makers of this sloppily written and totally annoying 92 minutes of slap-dash filmmaking would be have the courage of your convictions to follow through and not be a tease that never delivers on your promise. | CommentsComments (0)
Critique-defying Potter finale will please fans
Posted: 14 Jul 11 | One word that has dominated my reviews of blockbuster movies this season is review-proof and nowhere is it more evident than in this second half of the final chapter of the decade-long Harry Potter movie franchise. | CommentsComments (0)
Plenty of Bay-hem makes for epic endurance test
Posted: 01 Jul 11 | After the second Transformers feature, Revenge of the Fallen, director Michael Bay admitted dissatisfaction with the finished product and blamed the writer’s strike. I wonder what excuse is this time. | CommentsComments (0)
No happily ever after for this wedding comedy
Posted: 17 Jun 11 | It’s official, I am worried I am losing my sense of humour after seeing this more miss than hit comedy. | CommentsComments (0)
Abrams spins magic tale in ‘back to future’ thriller
Posted: 10 Jun 11 | It’s funny you know, this movie may be written and directed by one of the great talents in the business but has he made a mistake by joining forces with a producer who I consider marginally overrated as a filmmaker? | CommentsComments (0)
Prequel gives franchise reboot in right direction
Posted: 03 Jun 11 | What an interesting way to revive a movie series that started strongly but went out with somewhat of a whimper, with a prequel. | CommentsComments (0)
This Hangover sequel might lead to headaches
Posted: 27 May 11 | So how do you follow up the surprise movie hit of 2009? By creating a sequel that is almost a carbon copy of the original but in a different location, but is that a good idea? | CommentsComments (0)
Captain Jack sails back for more adventures
Posted: 20 May 11 | Just when you thought Captain Jack Sparrow had sailed his last adventure on the Black Pearl it seems the hunt for more box office treasure has brought him out of ‘retirement’. | CommentsComments (0)
