Re the debate around the setup of 3 Dubbo School Campus'. I wonder why no one is asking the students? My 3 kids were very pleased they were able to concentrate on yrs 10,11,12 without the distractions of the junior students. Teachers have told me they want the influence of the senior students to steady up the juniors, and help impose discipline. That is not their responsibility. The teachers get good holidays, pay etc..imposing discipline is part of the package, and their responsibility, not the yr 12 's. Leave the system as it is. The HSC results speak for success of the system. Teachers you are charged with education of the students. Do your job, stop being militant whingers. And if you want genuine feedback.... ASK YOUR STUDENTS!

I couldn't agree more with dubbomother's comments. The senior college was set up to give students more options in their senior school years, and has worked well. I hope the Department doesn't give in to a minority of teachers who have spat the dummy.

Dubbomother, I'm really pleased that you and your children were happy with their experience at the college. However, students tell me that they are reluctant to go to the senior campus and the learning time lost in first semester of year 10- School Certificate year- due to this adjustment is unnecessary. There is no learning incentive at the junior campus. Gifted students say that they don't need to work until they get to the senior campus. Will they ever reach their potential with attitudes like that? If you think that HSC results that have come out of the senior campus are something to be proud of then you are being misled. Mudgee and Coonabarabran clearly out performed Dubbo College in last years HSC. St Johns College and Dubbo Christian school also out performed the college. Public education in Dubbo was clearly better off with 3 7-12 schools. 40% of the teaching profession will retire in the next 5-12 years. If Dubbo wants to attract and retain quality teachers then the structure of the college will need to change.

Dubbo will do much better when the public schools are cleaned up,from bad teaching and bullying that comes from teachers and kids. I took my children out of school because I feared for their safety, health and learning and well being.

Iwould never place my children in public schools in Dubbo again.

The other things that will make Dubbo a better and safer place to live is , take care of the bad behaviour. Today its not safe to walk down the street day or night or visit the public Library.

I also think Dubbo should have a all year round water park. This would have too have a lot of fun and many activties, rock climbing and lots of sand. Moving from Dubbo.

I have a good idea for a project.

Bold Futures - We'll see what we can find out!

Maybe I am not educated enough in this area- so feel free anyone to clarify this, but what is going on with new businesses in Dubbo? It seems like every time a new proposal for a business is raised, the Dubbo Council jumps up and down, trying to convince the public that it will affect local business or that it isn't 'right' for Dubbo. Get with the times, we will never grow and expand as long as a small majority of people keep blocking new businesses.

There does seem to be a level of hinderance to the establishment of new business Dubbo.

What do others think?

I am so disappointed in Dubbo's lack of go ahead for the ice-rink. As a teenager growing up in Dubbo I found there was and stillis, a distinct lack of activities. I know that several businesses are complaining that they will lose business, but as far as I can see there is nothing but gain to be had. A permenant ice rink would lead to a boost in tourism from surronding communities and would increase revenue in Dubbo. I can only see the other businesses aimed at "children" gain over flow from this venture.

This ice rink may be able to create sporting opportunities that only cities, like Newcastle and Sydney, posses. Such as Ice Hockey and figure skating.

However my main concern is that no one is looking at this as activity that will interest teenagers and young adults. Lets face it these age groups have the cinema, shopping and pubs, and that is all that is available. I honestly think it is a disgrace that people are being so self centered over this proposal.
